Dr. Ela Przybylo, assistant professor in the Department of English and core faculty in the Women’s and Gender Studies Program at Illinois State University, will present “Publishing as Worldmaking: Why and How to Start a Badass Feminist Journal,” which will be followed by an in-depth Q&A. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, February 21, at the Publications Unit in Illinois State University’s Williams Hall Annex. This event is part of the Publications Unit Professional Speaker Series, and it is free and open to the public.
Przybylo is a founding and managing editor of the peer-reviewed, open-access, independent journal Feral Feminisms. She is also the author of Asexual Erotics: Intimate Readings of Compulsory Sexuality (Ohio State University Press 2019) and editor of On the Politics of Ugliness (with Sara Rodrigues, Palgrave 2018).
At Illinois State, Przybylo teaches courses on queer and trans writing and critical publishing studies, and her teaching and research examine questions of digital publishing as they relate to feminism, anti-racism, and decolonialism. She also works on increasing the visibility of asexual communities, knowledges, and identifications in feminist and sexuality scholarship.
The Publications Unit Professional Speaker Series invites publishing professionals working in a variety of roles in the field to lecture on a pertinent topic in person or virtually, and provides an opportunity for them to connect with interested students as well as faculty and community members.
