Current Peace Corps Campus Ambassadors are anthropology major Maria Kitchin and public relations major Shaylin Quaid.
What do Peace Corps Campus Ambassadors do?
Peace Corps Campus Ambassadors are students who share information about the Peace Corps with their peers. Ambassadors can organize campus events, table at campus fairs, and advertise through social media. They work alongside a Peace Corps regional recruiter in coordination with Illinois State’s Peace Corps programs at the Stevenson Center.
But I haven’t served in the Peace Corps!
Prior service is not required! Selected students are trained for the position and connected with returned Peace Corps Volunteers at Illinois State.
What is the commitment?
The time needed averages less than five hours per week for the fall and spring semesters. Of course, you’ll want to be present for any events you organize!
What are the benefits?
- A Peace Corps regional recruiter provides guidance and support, which may include a recommendation letter at year’s end (dependent on performance).
- Ambassadors build there résumés and get a taste of the Peace Corps, a U.S. federal agency that enhances the capacity of countries around the world.
- If they decide to apply to Peace Corps, the position can bolster their application, and the recruiter can provide tailored advice on the application process.
