In order to assist students who face food insecurity, the School Street Food Pantry is continuing to serve students during the governor’s order for residents to stay sheltered.
The Civil Service Council is requesting members of the ISU community to consider donating to the pantry. According to School Street Food Pantry Board Member Terri Thede, the pantry is in need of personal hygiene items, including body wash, shampoo, and feminine hygiene products. “Cleaning supplies have also been popular. I have found the dollar stores a good source for many of these items,” said Thede.
Those wishing to donate can text the number on the west side door of the First United Methodist Church at 211 N. School Street, Normal, between 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday and leave the items with a church employee.
The pantry serves about 90 students weekly. With the onset of COVID-19, volunteers pre-bag items that are given to the students who show an I.D. The pantry operates with increased precautions to ensure the health of students and volunteers.
Contributions are also welcome. Checks can be made to the First United Methodist Church with School Street Pantry in the memo line.
