Infectious disease and vaccine expert Dr. Heather Zwickey will share key insights into understanding COVID-19 immunity from noon–1 p.m. Wednesday, January 27, through a virtual presentation kicking off the Illinois State University Spring 2021 International Seminar Series. This free event is open to the public and advance registration is required.
Zwickey holds a Ph.D. in immunology and microbiology and leads a National Health Institutes-funded clinical research training program focused on training the next generation of integrative medicine researchers. She teaches at many universities and speaks at conferences worldwide. She launched the National University of Natural Medicine Helfgott Research Institute in Portland, Oregon, where she applies her immunology expertise to natural medicine, with a specific interest in the gut-brain axis in neuroinflammation.
With expertise in infectious disease and vaccine development, Zwickey has been sought out for her knowledge regarding COVID-19. She has spoken on more than 30 podcasts, written articles, and been a resource for people with tough questions.
The International Seminar Series will continue on Wednesdays from 12–1 p.m. throughout the spring semester with presenters from diverse geographic regions discussing topics related to the pandemic including immunology, dietary supplements, fear, mental health, education, experiences of ISU faculty and staff, and even the effect the pandemic has had on bees.
The Spring 2021 series, COVID-19: International Perspectives is a collaboration between the Illinois State University Office of International Studies and Programs, and the Mennonite College of Nursing.
