Students applying for admission to Illinois State University for the summer or fall 2022 semester will have a new option at their disposal.
The University’s Office of Admissions has announced students will now be able to submit an application for admission through the Common Application, increasing accessibility for many prospective Redbirds.
The Common App allows students to apply for admission to any of nearly 900 different colleges and universities, with the goal to promote access and equity in the college admissions process.
“Joining the Common App will make Illinois State even more accessible to students in Illinois, the Midwest, and nationally on a platform that is well recognized and provides access and convenience for all,” said Jeff Mavros, Illinois State University director of admissions.
As Illinois State moves toward greater accessibility for college-bound students, it will be joined by the other 11 public institutions in Illinois, making the state one of only two in the nation to have all public, four-year colleges partner with the Common App.
“We want to encourage Illinoisans to stay on course with their post-secondary dreams, and this step is instrumental in making the application process simpler and more affordable,” said Illinois Board of Higher Education Executive Director Ginger Ostro. “This will help students and it will help our public universities as we can showcase the terrific opportunities for our high school graduates to attend college in Illinois.”
Even prior to statewide adoption, Illinois was one of the top five states for Common App submissions.
