Do you want to make a difference in the lives of your peers, while also developing professional skills that will help you get an internship or a job? If so, become a career ambassador for Career Services for fall 2021.
Career ambassadors provide Redbirds with resume, cover letters, and LinkedIn profile reviews; and facilitate presentations to help students enhance their professional and career skills. Assisting over 2,500 students a year, as a career ambassador, you’ll develop your own professional skills, while working with employers and other campus constituents. Other roles include:
- Guiding and providing constructive feedback to students while reviewing resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles.
- Answering career related questions in person and virtually.
- Providing career presentations to a wide range of campus audiences and sizes both in person and virtually.
- Embracing cultural differences and facilitating a supportive, welcoming, and inclusive environment.
- Assisting with physical set-up and take-down at events/programs, helping with guest check-in and other support at events.
- Assisting students at the Career Resource Hub with resume printing services.
- Connecting students to appropriate resources.
- Participating in marketing promotions such as videos and photo shoots.
- Utilizing technology to complete position responsibilities (i.e., Zoom, Microsoft Word, Teams, Hire-A-Redbird, etc.).
- May have the option to be a peer instructor for IDS 106: Career Choice.
- Positively representing the Career Services to students, employers, and other constituents.
Requirements
- Comfortable working with diverse student populations in a group and individual settings.
- Currently enrolled as an Illinois State student. All majors and international students welcome to apply.
- Able to commit to work at least two consecutive semesters and up to 15 hours a week, extra hours available depending on events and presentations.
- Available for some evenings and weekend hours for presentations and career related events.
- Possess a desire to help peers and provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to adapt to the changing work environment.
- Experience in, or willingness to develop, presentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
- Able to acquire problem solving skills.
- Ability to refer students to appropriate resources.
- Maintain student confidentiality.
- Detail oriented.
- Be in good standing with both academic and university conduct at time of application and throughout employment.
