The connections forged between student and instructor, and between students and other students, are pivotal in creating transformative learning experiences.

After an academic year of forced isolation, students have returned to Illinois State craving genuine human contact. With that in mind, the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology seeks session proposals for the next University-Wide Teaching & Learning Symposium, which will be held both in-person and online on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.

Building a Relationship-Rich Campus

While all proposals related to teaching and learning are welcome, we especially encourage proposals that address the Symposium theme—Listen, Encourage, Inspire, Challenge: Building a Relationship-Rich Campus.

How can we encourage students to make human connections in ways that shape how and how deeply they learn? Few things have illustrated the paramount importance of connections between students and instructors like the coronavirus pandemic. As we move into a new year, we hope to explore the interconnected strands of relationship-rich education, authentic learning, and authentic assessment.

Types of proposals

CTLT seeks proposals for both in-person and online sessions. Please note: If conditions warrant, in-person sessions may be shifted to online. Neither in-person nor online sessions will be recorded for later viewing.

Everyone with teaching responsibilities at Illinois State University (full and part-time faculty, graduate teaching assistants, and administrative/professional staff), as well as those who support student learning in co-curricular contexts, are invited to develop a Symposium proposal in one of the following formats:

  • A 25-minute presentation (maximum 2 presenters)
  • A 50-minute presentation (minimum 3 presenters; more than 5 not recommended)
  • A poster (posters will be produced by CTLT at no charge, using your design)

Submission deadline–October 3, 2021

Proposals must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, October 3, 2021. Detailed selection criteria and example submissions are also available online.
