As the fall semester is nearing its end, students are diligently finishing projects, studying for finals, and preparing for the holidays. At the same time, those who are graduating are contemplating their next steps.
This semester, Department of Technology graduate student John Awaitey shared some great news with Career Services about his recent accomplishment before graduation – landing a full-time job with Archer Daniels Midland (ADM). Here’s what John had to share about his career success.
What is your new position and where will you be?
“I landed my dream job as an international logistics coordinator at ADM; after more than 400 applications and 50 interviews!”
How did you find this position?
“I participated in the Career Services Virtual Internship and Career Fair this past October. It was during one of the sessions that I learned about ADM. I was passionate about the company and the job since it aligns with my career path. I submitted my application via the company’s website after the career fair. I was called for an interview a week later. Thankfully, the rest has been great memories.”
How did Career Services assist you with your job search?
“I would say Career Services has a lot in store for students. The fair was very productive. The timeliness of the publicity on the fair day was very helpful. The support afforded to me by Career Services in navigating my way to the participating companies is greatly appreciated.”
What connections assisted you with your career journey?
“None of this would be possible without the support of faculty from the Department of Technology, including Dr. H. Sally Xie, Dr. Joshua Brown, Dr. Klaus Schmidt, Dr. Ted Branoff, and many others. I would also like to extend my profound gratitude to Career Services Internship Connections Coordinator Megan Patterson for her support in reviewing my resume, and always being like a big sister to me.”
Any final thoughts for our readers?
“I would conclude by thanking Career Services for such a great initiative. Also, the values, teachings, education, development, and growth I have received from Illinois State University and the Department of Technology will be paid forward. Thank you all and I’ll see you at the top!”
