The Civil Service Council will feature a civil service employee at Illinois State University each month to highlight an exceptional colleague and the outstanding work being done on campus! This month get a chance to learn about and applaud Julie Guither from Facilities Management.
What is your position on campus and how long have you been with the University?
I am the Stores Supervisor with Facilities Management. Stores is located at the north end of the old John Green Good Service Building. I have been with the University for a little over 2 ½ years and was hired in as a Storekeeper II. At Stores we stock items and order supplies, items and tools that people request and need to do their work. Before ISU, I had worked at the Bloomington Kohl’s Department Store for over 18 and ½ years.
What do you find most rewarding about your work?
I have found so many things rewarding in my time at ISU and at Stores. I always want to finish my day feeling fulfilled and accomplished that I have done my best. I love having met so many different people with so many different personalities and different roles on campus. I love getting to know them and helping them find the things they need to do their jobs and building relationships with them. Facilities Maintenance has done a lot for the University with COVID. I have worked with a lot of great people to try to source and obtain the items we have needed. It was a super busy and exhausting time…but it felt good to be a part of something good. I liked being a part of that.
What are your hobbies or favorite past-time?
It is sad to say…but I do not have many hobbies, haha. I have a husband and two kids, Kepi (17-almost 18 years old) and Vivian (14 years old). I kind of sponge off all of them and their hobbies. I love gnomes and owls and collect cookie jars. All different kinds, shapes and sizes.
What else would you like others to know about you or your time at ISU?
Just that I really enjoy what I do and who I get to see and work with every day. Sometimes sourcing items, parts and supplies can be tough, especially these days but everyone has been great and kind and encouraging.

Julie is always ready to take on the challenge of the new day with a smile on her face and a pleasant “can do” attitude. In her time at ISU, Julie has been nothing short of a team player. She does whatever is needed for Facilities Management and the ISU community. She provides outstanding customer service, researching and acquiring hard to find items. Julie took charge of obtaining COVID-19 health and safety supplies for the campus, communicating with the entire campus community on their needs.
Julie recently has been promoted to Stores Supervisor. She continues to learn new tasks with ease and continues to make positive contributions to the campus.
