The following message provides information about on-campus vaccination and booster clinics, new guidelines for timing on receiving booster shots, updated timelines on quarantine and isolation procedures, and reminders about COVID-19 entry testing for the Spring 2022 semester.
Health and safety standards are subject to change and are adopted as a part of the University’s COVID-19 prevention and mitigation strategies as recommended by the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE), Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

On-Campus Vaccine Booster Clinics January 20-22
On-campus vaccine booster clinics operated by the State of Illinois will be 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. January 20, 21, and 22 in the Prairie Rooms of the Bone Student Center. Sign-up details will be available Monday, January 10 and will be on the University’s Coronavirus vaccine webpage.
The State requires a minimum of 30 people to pre-register for each day, five days in advance for the clinics to proceed. Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson will be provided. While the clinic is focused on boosters, they will also provide first, second, and third doses. These clinics are limited to those who are at least 12 years of age. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Booster doses
The IDPH and the CDC are recommending booster doses 5 months after receiving the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine, 6 months after receiving second dose of Moderna, and 2 months after receiving the single Johnson & Johnson dose.
Because the booster dose has been shown to be extremely effective against the newest variants of the coronavirus, the Redbird community is strongly encouraged to obtain and upload proof of a booster vaccine, when eligible. Submit booster records as soon as possible to the secure Patient Health Portal.
COVID-19 Entry Testing
As a reminder, all students, faculty, and staff are required to test to start the new year. Details on COVID-19 entry testing can be reviewed in the January 3 Coronavirus Update, or the Spring 2022 FAQs on the Coronavirus website.
Student Health Services is processing the uploaded test results as quickly as possible. You will receive an e-mail message from SHS if there are any concerns with an uploaded record. Please refrain from contacting Student Health Services to verify if they have received your uploaded record.
Length of quarantine and isolation
New guidelines from the CDC and IDPH have shortened the length of isolation time for people who test positive for COVID-19, and quarantine time for close contacts. Details of the new 5-day guidelines can be found on the Illinois State University FAQ page under Quarantine and Isolation Questions.
Faculty and staff who test positive must contact Human Resources to discuss benefit usage and leave of absence options. Students should contact the Dean of Students Office for information on an excused for isolation or quarantine.
Reminders for Spring 2022
- No member of the University community should return to campus if they have tested positive for COVID-19 until the appropriate isolation period has concluded.
- Unless otherwise specified through university email or ReggieNet course pages, courses will be delivered online between January 10-January 21.
- All Illinois State University facilities are open.
- In-person teaching and learning will resume on Monday, January 24.
