Illinois State University and officially licensed jeweler Kyle Cavan have partnered to release a one-of-a-kind piece commemorating the historic Old Main Bell that still stands on the Quad. As part of the beloved Founding Celebration and tradition of Illinois State, the Old Main Bell is synonymous with the University. To celebrate, Kyle Cavan has designed a replica of the bell that all Illinois State students and alumni will cherish.
Each year on February 18, the tradition known as Founding Celebration is held on campus, honoring the day on which Illinois State University was established. Beginning in 1909, the day commemorates the longstanding traditions and heritage of the University, with one of those traditions being the ringing of the Old Main Bell. Old Main was the first building constructed on campus, featuring the bell that sits on the Quad. Unfortunately, the building was torn down in 1958, however, the bell was preserved. Ever since, the historic bell stands as a symbol for Illinois State.
Based in New York City, Kyle Cavan is a women-owned small business that has designed several pieces belonging to the Illinois State collection, with the newest being the Old Main Bell pendant. Featuring a flat back and the engraving of 1857, the 3D bell pendant can live on a beautiful cable, a link chain. It can also be worn as a lapel pin or bell cufflinks. Two colors are available: sterling silver and Cavan gold. If the chain option is picked, you can customize the length (from 16-17-18” to 20-21-22”) and the style (cable or link). With commencement and Mother’s Day quickly approaching, the perfect gift is waiting for your Redbird moms and graduates (or for yourself!).
