Illinois State University’s Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts and School of Music, in conjunction with the Illinois Shakespeare Festival, will present Concerts on the Quad weekly at 7 p.m. from Monday, July 4 through Monday, July 25 on the east side of Cook Hall. All concerts are free and open to the public. Concertgoers should bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.
Monday, July 4—House of Hamill
Whether they are ripping through a set of original jigs and reels, adding lush three-part harmonies into traditional folk ballads, or cracking up an audience with stories from the road, House of Hamill puts on a show that captivates audiences from the very first note.
Monday, July 11—Creole Stomp with Dennis Stroughmatt
Informally known as “The Grateful Dead of Creole Music” for their well-oiled, dancer-driven, crowd-pleasing marathon jams and improvisation, Creole Stomp celebrates their 20th year.
Monday, July 18—An Evening of Jazz: Stephanie Aaron Quintet
Stephanie Aaron brings to the stage a style of singing jazz that pleases and entertains fans of the genre.
Monday, July 25—Singing under the Stars
Illinois State University faculty and guests perform favorites from the Broadway and operatic stages.
Concerts on the Quad is sponsored by the Mirza Fund for Arts and Culture of the Illinois Prairie Community Foundation and the Alice and Fannie Fell Trust.
In the event of inclement weather, concerts will be moved to the Concert Hall in Illinois State University’s Center for the Performing Arts, located on the southeast corner of the Quad, next to Williams Hall. Listen to radio stations WGLT (89.1 FM), WBNQ (101.5 FM), or WJBC (1230 AM) after 6 p.m. on concert days or follow Concerts on the Quad on Facebook for announcements or site changes.
