Dr. Alexandra Ketchum of McGill University will give a virtual talk, “Beyond Open Access: Engaging in Feminist and Accessible Public Scholarship,” at noon Tuesday, October 25, over Zoom.
Ketchum’s talk is in celebration of international Open Access Week, an annual event that seeks to highlight the benefits and possibilities of making scholarship freely available to the public.
The talk is free and open to the public. The event is sponsored by Milner Library, the Harold K. Sage Fund, and the Illinois State University Foundation.
Ketchum will discuss the benefits and limitations of the idea of “openness.” Ketchum will seek to highlight often-marginalized voices such as smaller presses, people of color, women, and the LGBTQ community in the open access discourse.
The author of Engage in Public Scholarship! (Concordia University Press), Ketchum is a faculty lecturer of the Institute for Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies of McGill University. She is the director of the Just Feminist Tech and Scholarship Lab. Her work integrates food, environmental, technological, and gender history.
Ketchum’s other works include Engage in Public Scholarship! A Guidebook on Feminist and Accessible Communication and Ingredients for Revolution: A History of American Feminist Restaurants, Cafes, and Coffeehouses.
