On Monday, September 19, from 5–6:45 p.m., Illinois State students can connect with Town of Normal City Council members and staff to learn more about the community and share issues that matter to them.
Students can enjoy food while getting the chance to network and connect with Town of Normal Council members, staff, and leadership.
“This is a great opportunity for students to connect with local leaders and express their ideas,” Director of the Center for Civic Engagement Dr. Katy Strzepek said.
Due to COVID-19, the event has not been held since 2019. Town of Normal leaders and council members look forward to discussing community issues with students during the meet and greet, and student input is valued by community leaders. In the past, student concerns about recycling opportunities even helped inspire changes in local legislation.
Mayor Chris Koos will make brief remarks at 5:30 p.m. The event will be held on the fourth floor of Uptown Station (11 Uptown Circle) and is free for all students. Uptown Station has access to elevators to get to the fourth floor. No registration is required, and parking vouchers will be available for those who park in the Uptown Normal parking garage.
The Town of Normal meet and greet is sponsored by the Center for Civic Engagement, Town of Normal, and Student Government Association. Individuals with questions can contact the Center for Civic Engagement at (309) 438-1100.
