The Administrative/Professional Council is hosting a book group for Illinois State University employees Thursday, October 27, from 12-1 p.m. via Zoom. The discussion will be based on Reyna Grande’s book, Distance Between Us, a memoir which describes her life before and after she arrived in the United States from Mexico as an undocumented child immigrant. Melissa Ramirez-Osorio, a member of CAUSA (Committee Assisting Undocumented Student Achievement) and the A/P Council, will also share resources on how to support students who are undocumented. A limited number of copies of the book are available at the Center for Civic Engagement; it is also available through Audible and at local libraries.
Attendees must register for the event in advance. A Zoom link will be sent to registrants.
The book club continues the celebration of the visit of Grande, an internationally acclaimed author. She will give a community book lecture on October 15, 2022, as part of a community-wide celebration of Latinx Heritage Month.
