The School of Music will host the first-ever Anti Recital on Friday, October 7, at noon in the Center for the Performing Arts’ Concert Hall.
Full of talent and humor, the School of Music recital workers will step into the spotlight. Recital workers, whose presence usually goes unnoticed at concerts and recitals, play a vital role in the success of School of Music by setting up for concerts, running livestreams, providing microphones, monitoring buildings, and completing other tasks. The events in the School of Music would not go on without them. It is only fair that these students have a chance to be recognized for their hard work.
The event will allow student workers to show off their musical talents as well as their keen senses of humor during an atypical recital experience. Traditionally, music recitals have very strict rules and performance conditions; however, these conditions will be thrown aside for one performance only as students perform original skits and parodies that make light of the typical seriousness associated with a recital. Making weird noises, doing wild things with their instruments, and playing games are just a few of the ways the students might “break the rules” during the Anti Recital.
The program features several selections of music, including excerpts from Mario Kart, “Themes and Variations” from Angry Birds, and performances by Ryan3, the unOfficial kazoo and bagpipe ensemble.
The students hope to bring joy and laughter to attendees during a stressful part of the semester while also having fun themselves.
