The Post-Roe Reproductive Justice Series continues with talks on reproductive injustices in immigration detention and reproductive justice in the LGBTQ+ community.
Reproductive justice without borders
“Reproductive Justice Without Borders: Notes on Abortion Rights and the Nation,” a talk by Dr. Brittany Leach, will be at 6 p.m. October 25, 2022, in the Old Main Room of the Bone Student Center. Registration is encouraged.
Leach is an assistant professor in the School of Anthropology, Political Science, and Sociology at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Leach’s primary areas of research are feminist political theory and practice, reproductive freedom and justice, and continental political thought in the modern and contemporary periods.
Queering reproductive justice
The series will come to a close with “Queering Reproductive Justice: The Point Where Reproductive Justice Meets LGBTQ+ Politics,” a talk by Dr. Kimala Price at 6 p.m. November 1, 2022, on Zoom. Registration is required.
Price is a professor of women’s studies at San Diego State University. Price’s areas of research include reproductive politics and policy in the U.S., women of color and the reproductive justice movement, and anti-abortion campaigns that target the African American community.
“The goal of the series is to bring the ISU and Bloomington-Normal communities together to learn about reproductive justice and destigmatize reproductive rights,” said Dr. Meghan Leonard, a professor of politics and government at Illinois State and one of the organizers of the series.
The Reproductive Justice Speaker Series, hosted by Illinois State University and is sponsored by the Harold K. Sage Foundation and the Department of Politics and Government.
