President Terri Goss Kinzy announced the appointment of Dr. Byron Craig as the chair and faculty fellow for the new subcommittee on LGBTQIA+ Policies and Initiatives within the President’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council (DIAC).
“This is a time to put actions behind words,” said Kinzy. “Our University has an abundance of expertise and knowledgeable people who can help us move forward as a welcoming campus. I look forward to the work of Dr. Craig and the subcommittee.”
The subcommittee is scheduled to convene in the Spring 2023 semester and will be charged with establishing a framework for the University to address LGBTQIA+ issues. “The new DIAC subcommittee will recommend potential actions that establish the foundation for lasting, positive, systemic change through Illinois State University,” said DIAC Chair Dr. Doris Houston, who serves as the equity and inclusion officer at Illinois State.
Craig is working with Houston to complete the list of committee members from across campus. “As a committee, we will seek actions necessary to address historical inequities,” said Craig.
Craig serves as an assistant professor in the School of Communication at Illinois State. He is the co-president of the Queer Coalition affinity group for faculty and staff and a member of the President’s Diversity and Inclusion Council.
