The School of Theatre and Dance at Illinois State University will present the Fall Dance Concert interACTION, featuring works choreographed by faculty and a guest artist. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. December 2-3, and at 2 p.m. December 3-4 at the University’s Center for the Performing Arts Theatre (CPA).
“The fall dance concert is an exciting way to experience creativity, artistry, and athleticism as the pre-professional student company performs works,” said interACTION Artistic Director Darby Wilde.
Works will include those choreographed by faculty Laina Reese, Greg Merriman, Jocelyn Perez, and Wilde. The concert will also include work from guest artist Alexandra Beller, which was created over a 10-day residency with the New York-based choreographer, dancer, and director.
Students auditioned the first week of classes in August to be cast in the faculty and guest artist works and have been rehearsing for this performance for 15 weeks. There are five works on the concert, and each work is an original made by the faculty/guest artist in collaboration with the dancers. In addition, the performance has student costume designers, student lighting designers, and student stage managers.
This year’s concert is being dedicated to two beloved faculty in the School of Theatre and Dance, Kari Beth Rust and Colleen Tovar. “Each of these faculty had an impact on the process of making this concert and on so many students and colleagues, present and past,” said Wilde.
Tickets are available through the CPA box office, open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at (309) 438-2535 and online. Tickets are for $19 for adults and $14 for students and seniors. Free performance parking is available in the School Street Parking Deck in spots 250 and above, at 400 W. Beaufort St., in Normal.
