The Sociology and Anthropology Brown Bag Research Series will present Dr. Charles Bell’s talk “I Never Feel Safe”: Exploring Black Students’, Parents’, and Teachers’ Experiences Navigating School Punishment and Violence” at noon, Friday, February 3, in room 114 of Schroeder Hall.

Bell, an assistant professor in the Department of Criminal Justice Sciences at Illinois State University, has been studying school suspensions in K-12 schools for years, from the perception of Black students and their parents, and educators. He is the author of Suspended: Punishment, Violence, and the Failure of School Safety (Johns Hopkins Press), and recently appeared on The Roundtable Perspective on PBS.
