Every month the Administrative/Professional (A/P) Council highlights an A/P staff member through a series of questions as another way for the Illinois State University community to connect. This month readers can get to know Candice Osenga, director of clinical education for audiology in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
Job title/position: Director of clinical education for audiology in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders
Job duties: I supervise graduate students seeing audiology patients in the Eckelmann-Taylor Speech and Hearing Clinic on ISU’s campus. I schedule on- and off-campus clinical rotations for the Doctor of Audiology graduate students. I also help manage the clinic equipment and supplies to meet the needs of educating our students and seeing our patients.
How long have you been an employee at ISU?: Fifteen years. I started in spring 2008.
What do you love most about working at ISU?: I work with the best team of people! I also get the best of both worlds; being part of appointments to help patients and being around college students who are excited about learning and are so much fun to get to know.
What is one fact about yourself that might surprise people?: I love slalom skiing.
When you’re not working, what are you most likely doing?: Driving my three kids to practices or watching their games.
What is your favorite spot on campus?: Probably Capen Auditorium, because I met my husband at an Encounter service there when I was an undergrad student at ISU.
What quote most inspires you? Why?: I have a sign in my office that says “Explore, Discover, Dream.” It reminds me that while my default is to work hard and play later, it is best to take moments to get to know and listen to each person that walks in my door and to take adventures with the people in my life.
