An online memorial in honor of the late Dr. Kass Fleisher will include readings from guest authors Tonya M. Foster, Erica Hunt, Bhanu Kapil, and Laura Mullen.
The Adventurous: Radical Nonfiction will be from 2-5:30 p.m. Friday, February 24, via Zoom. Access the Zoom link here. A dedication and readings from Fleisher’s work will be from 2-3:30 p.m. followed by readings from Foster, Hunt, Kapil, and Mullen.
The event, sponsored by the Harold K. Sage Foundation, is free and open to the public.
Dr. Kass Fleisher
Fleisher passed away in January of 2023. An author, editor, and screenwriter, Fleisher is the creator of several works, including The Adventurous, Accidental Species, Talking Out of School: Memoir of an Educated Woman; and The Bear River Massacre and the Making of History. Fleisher co-edited a wide-ranging literary anthology, Litscapes: Collected US Writings.
Tonya M. Foster
Foster is a poet, essayist, Black feminist scholar, and the author of A Swarm of Bees in High Court, the bilingual chapbook La Grammaire des Os; and coeditor of Third Mind: Teaching Creative Writing through Visual Art.
Erica Hunt
A poet and essayist, Hunt is the author of Local History, Arcade, Piece Logic, Time Flies Right Before the Eyes, and VERONICA: A Suite in X Parts. Hunt is also co-editor of the anthology Letters to the Future, Black Women/Radical Writing.
Bhanu Kapil
Combining poetry and prose, Kapil is an author of works that include The Vertical Interrogation of Strangers, Incubation: a space for monsters, humanimal [a project for future children], Schizophrene, and Ban en Banlieue.
Laura Mullen
Mullen is the W.R. Kenan Jr. Chair of Humanities in Literature and Creative Writing at Wake Forest University. A National Endowment for the Arts and MacDowell Fellow, she writes poetry and experimental prose, as well as hybrid texts playing with genre. She also works with video and sound, explores performance, publishes translations, and collaborates with artists, composers, and musicians.
