Create rewarding, life-lasting experiences for your students by aligning your course closely with one of Illinois State University’s core values. Applications are now being accepted for the summer 2023 cohort of (Re)Design Your Course for Civic Engagement. The deadline to apply is Sunday, April 2, 2023, at 11:55 p.m.
The redesign process allows faculty to promote active learning experiences and assessment through which students can gain an awareness and understanding of civic engagement as a lifelong responsibility.
“In this cohort, we help faculty explore all aspects of civic engagement, to find the best fit for their course,” says Dr. Dana Karraker, who leads the program on behalf of the Center for Integrated Professional Development. “The goal is to help connect curriculum with the real word, which not only instills deep learning, but also gives their education deeper meaning and value.”
Commitments and eligibility
Course instructors selected to participate in this cohort will spend the equivalent of four days (about 24 hours, both in-person and outside course design work) working to integrate civic engagement into a course they have taught and will teach again in the near future. This will include synchronous and asynchronous work. Participants must attend all sessions.
All tenured, tenure-track, and full-time non-tenure track instructors as well as staff with teaching responsibilities are eligible to apply. Eight course instructors, from any discipline, will be selected for the 2023 cohort.
Faculty who successfully complete the program will create a course that could be included in the Civic Engagement and Responsibility Minor and will earn a $1,000 stipend.
