In honor of its 50th anniversary, the College of Business invites alumni to share favorite memories of their time at the school.
“We’d like to get as many people as possible,” said Executive Director of Marketing Steve Vandiver as he described how alumni can tell a funny story, pay tribute to an impactful professor or recollect a meaningful experience. “Just write a few words about something special … We’re looking for little anecdotes. It doesn’t have to be a long story.”
To submit a memory, visit business.illinoisstate.edu/cob50 and select the link titled “Share your memories with us.” Entries will be compiled and presented during Homecoming.
Senior marketing major Trysten Florey, who is helping to organize the project, said, “I hope people will find happiness in sharing what they really loved about the COB so that other people can relate with them as well.”
“We encourage alumni to get involved in our exciting celebration,” said Dr. Debbie Lindberg, Interim Associate Dean for Accreditation and Operations and Professor of Accounting. “Share a memory about a favorite professor, tell us what you enjoyed most about attending ISU, and/or participate in a wide variety of Homecoming activities the week of Oct. 15 to Oct. 21.”
Steve issued an invitation for alumni to stop by the COB anniversary tent in the Redbird TentZone during Homecoming tailgating Saturday, Oct. 21, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“See some faces you might recognize or meet friends to share a good time at ISU and enjoy the common bond we share as Redbirds,” he urged.
In addition to a commemorative memory wall, booklets will be available that detail the history of the COB and spotlight what Trysten described as some of the college’s “more iconic” and “defining” photos.
Beginning Sept. 21, the school kicks off a 30-day social media campaign called Did You Know? to highlight facts about the COB. In the weeks leading up to Homecoming, several trivia questions will be posted. The first person to comment with the correct answer will receive a limited edition COB T-shirt.
Follow Business ISU on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram for your chance to win.
“Please join in our celebration in a way that is meaningful to you, whether that is coming back to campus for a visit, attending the Homecoming football game, and/or contributing your time or financial resources to advance the college’s mission to continue and enhance our tradition of excellence,” concluded the interim associate dean.
In August,1956. I received my masters degree in business education. Dr.Toll was my advisor. I taught typing, shorthand, office practice, general business, bookkeeping classes at Leroy and Downs, IL high schools; also was the advisor for the school newspaper and yearbook. Oh yes, was a class sponsor each year–all for the same salary of $3000.00+ for the year.
Having a delete key and spell checker sure would have saved me a lot of time back then! My computer and printer is so much better than the old duplicator and mimeograph machines.
Do you know of any other alumni from 1955-56?
Have a wonderful 50th and many more.
Sincerely yours,
