Campus Recreation will offer two classes for participants to learn the skills needed to become leaders in fitness this fall.
The first course to choose from is the ACE Personal Training Prep Course. This course will take place October 22 from 10 a.m.–6 p.m. The course will teach theoretical knowledge and practical skills for preparation to take the ACE national certification exam. Instruction will include learning how to provide safe and valuable exercise for clients. You will also learn to conduct fitness assessments and design the correct plan for clients. An online session of the course is also included and needs to be completed before any in-class work. Registration will close at noon October 6, and the cost is $50 for students/members. The course will take place in McCormick Hall-Exercise Physiology Lab (Room 177).
The second course to choose from is the Group Fitness Instructor (GFI) Prep Course. This course will take place on October 29 from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. and will prepare participants for the ACE GFI certification. The course will provide you with information to lead a safe and fun fitness class, and will prepare you to work with healthy individuals as well with people who have health issues. The online portion of the course needs to be completed before the in-class sessions. Registration will close at noon on October 13 and costs $50 for students/members. The course will take place in the 201 Student Fitness Center Room and 187 McCormick Hall.
Attendance at either one of these classes will also include a 20 percent discount on the national exams to become certified in personal training or group fitness instruction.
“If you want to make a difference in someone’s life and be an advocate for healthy living, this is a great way to do so,” says Jenna Cabrera, assistant director of Fitness. “These courses will help you pass certification exams that can contribute to your future careers in health and fitness.”
