The Illinois State University Percussion Ensemble will present its fall concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, November 5, in the University’s Kemp Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.
Within the intimacy and communication of chamber groups, the subtle fluctuations and nuance of rhythm and timbre will be explored. The ensemble will perform four movements from Threads by Paul Lansky. These pieces illuminate the interweaving of both pitched and rhythmic lines. Also on the program will be the architecturally-inspired Tilted Spheres by Dave Hall, the mallet ensemble Six by Ivan Trevino, and Persistence by Brian Blume.
Matt Jacklin will be the featured guest soloist in Aurora Borealis by John Thrower. This work for marimba soloist and trio showcases the technical and musical talents of Jacklin, a professor of percussion at Olivet Nazarene University and a Vic Firth Artist.
