Professor of Anthropology Maria Ostendorf Smith will present the next U-Club talk with “The Archaeology of the Human Skeleton.” The meeting will begin at 3:30 p.m. with the talk at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 23, in the Founders Suite of the Bone Student Center.
Smith, who specializes in paleopathology, has been investigating various health issues found in the pre-Columbian human skeletal samples. Her focus areas include the diet, endemic disease, malnutrition, and deliberate trauma of the era. Smith’s study samples come from the Tennessee River Valley of eastern and west-central Tennessee and they date back to 600 B.C.E.–1540 C.E.
All faculty, staff, annuitants, and guests are welcome to attend University Club, which runs from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Continued program support is provided by the Office of the Provost and the Office of the President. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
