The fourth annual #RedbirdProud Social Media Awards were held on April 26, 2018, to honor the great work of Illinois State’s social media managers. The awards recognize the best uses of social media at ISU by faculty, staff, and student interns, in three categories.
Best New/Most Improved Social Media
Winner: Communication Sciences and Disorders
Thanks to a strong content calendar and a distinct voice, this account has doubled its follower count in one academic year as of this writing. Strategies used to achieve this growth include a focus on alumni and student success stories, weekly profiles, eye-catching graphics, and recognition of faculty and staff.
Most Innovative Use of Social Media
Winner: WGLT’s Local Elections Facebook Group
WGLT acknowledged the growing prominence of Facebook Groups in all of our news feeds and has created a well moderated and active group relevant to their communication goals.
Best Overall Use of Social Media
Winner: The Division of Student Affairs
The Division of Student Affairs has undertaken a number of new initiatives to engage their audience. These include a student ambassador program, consistent use and growth of #YourRedbirdLife, weekly videos about what is going on in Student Affairs, and consistent recognition of staff.
Additionally, the winners of the Social Media Travelling Trophy were recognized. Launched in November 2017, the Travelling Trophy is a way to recognize the hard work our social media managers do throughout the calendar year. The winners so far are:
- College of Business
- University Police
- Research at ISU
- Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
