Think you’re too old to trick or treat? Think again! Dress in costume and join your friends for the Trick or Treat for Change!
Trick-or-Treat for Change is a philanthropic project in which volunteers can dress in costume and trick-or-treat for monetary donations from residents in the Bloomington-Normal community.
All proceeds go to the Illinois State University/Illinois Wesleyan University Chapter of Habitat for Humanity to help local families build their own homes. To date, students have raised more than $60,000.
“Trick or Treat is instrumental in helping us reach our goals of raising enough funds for the home we are building, which in turn helps build up a family to help contribute to the community,” Vice President of the ISU Chapter of Habitat for Humanity Zach Lew said.
“Trick or Treat brings the community of Illinois State together by presenting a fun, creative opportunity for students to give back,” Graphic Design and Social Media Chair Cara Shapkauski said. “Since the event is an Illinois State tradition for over 10 years, we’ve built a relationship with neighborhoods outside of campus. It’s fun to see this one night a year where we all come together as a community for our cause.”
All Illinois State University and Illinois Wesleyan University students are invited to trick or treat. Register online to participate. (Participation is limited to Illinois State and Illinois Wesleyan students only.)
Check-in will take place from 4:30-6 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, in the Prairie Room of the Bone Student Center. The event will conclude by 8 p.m.
“Trick or Treat for Change helps the community by allowing Bloomington-Normal residents to interact with the students on campus more, and from their gracious donations, we are able to build up the community through affordable housing,” said Jade Surface, co-president of the Illinois State Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
“It’s a great opportunity to engage in a community that I now consider my new home,” added Volunteer Coordinator Ana Flores.
