Guest artist and Illinois State University alum Francis Favis will present a percussion recital at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 29, in Kemp Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
This concert will feature new works for percussion including Klingen Lassen for snare drum and tape, Burritt Variations for marimba, and the Illinois premiere of Talk! Talk, a work for percussion and live electronics by Kelley Sheehan.
Hailing from Illinois, Favis is a percussionist who is regularly engaged with both teaching and performing with a background in a wide variety of musical styles. Recent engagements include appearances with the American Festival Pops Orchestra, as a percussion soloist on John Mackey’s Drum Music with GMU, a premiere in Vancouver for the College Music Society International Conference, and a solo performance at the McCormick Marimba Festival. He is an alum of both the Nief-Norf Summer Festival and the So Percussion Summer Institute and is on the faculty for the Music for All Summer Symposium.
Favis holds a bachelor’s degree in music performance from Illinois State, and is working toward his master’s degree at George Mason University.
