Scott Seeman, interim chairperson for the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders
Scott Seeman began his appointment as interim chair of the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department (CSD) on July 1. Seeman has served as a faculty member in the department for the past nine years after graduating with his Ph.D. from Ohio State University.
He has taught a number of foundational courses in the Au.D. curriculum including amplification, electrophysiology, and anatomy and physiology. He has also taught the CSD undergraduate hearing science course.
His research interests include speech perception in noise for older adults and those with hearing loss, listening effort, and psychophysiological indicators of stress. He has a number of publications in those areas. He is developing a questionnaire for assessing listening effort that can be utilized in the clinical setting. Individuals, despite having similar hearing loss, may have dramatically different listening experiences. These differences can be quantified in terms of how much effort they expend during listening.
In his free time, he enjoys fishing, watching soccer, and spending time with his wife and their 11-year-old twins, Sean and Clara.
