Zhao Jian, the consul general of the People’s Republic of China office in Chicago, will deliver the Fall 2019 International Seminar Series keynote at Illinois State University with a talk titled “U.S.-China Relations.”
The talk, sponsored by the Office of International Studies and Programs, will be at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, in the Hancock Stadium Club, 211 N. Main St. in Normal. The event is free and open to the public. Lunch will be provided. However, advanced registration is required, as space is limited. Zhao has served as consul general of the People’s Republic of China in Chicago and Melbourne, Australia. He served several roles in the Department of North American and Oceanian Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including director. He was also an attaché to the embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
Before the keynote, Illinois State’s Associate Professor of Graphic Design in the Wonsook Kim School of Art Archana Shekara will provide a brief introduction of her students’ art work for the display “Designing Cross-Cultural Awareness Through Typography: Understanding Heritage and Cultural Identity of China.” The students’ art work will also be on display at this event.
