Three Illinois State University faculty members in the Department of Criminal Justice Sciences received top national honors for exemplary service and scholarship at the recent American Society of Criminology (ASC) national conference.
Ralph Weisheit
Distinguished Professor of Criminal Justice Ralph Weisheit was awarded the ASC Division of Rural Criminology’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The Lifetime Achievement Award honors an individual’s sustained and distinguished scholarship, teaching, and/or service in the field of critical criminology.
Dawn Beichner
Professor of Criminal Justice Dawn Beichner was named the 2019 ASC Division of Women and Crime’s CoraMae Richey Mann Inconvenient Woman of the Year. The award recognizes the scholar/activist who has participated in publicly promoting the ideals of gender equality and women’s rights throughout society, particularly as it relates to gender and crime issues.
Shelly Clevenger
Associate Professor of Criminal Justice Shelly Clevenger was awarded the 2019 Robert Jerin Book of the Year Award from the Division of Victimology. Clevenger, a former winner of the division’s Teacher of the Year Award, co-authored Understanding Victimology.
ASC is an international organization whose members pursue scholarly, scientific, and professional knowledge concerning the measurement, etiology, consequences, prevention, control, and treatment of crime and delinquency.
The theme of the 2019 ASC national conference was Criminology in the New Era: Confronting Injustice and Inequalities.
