Executive Director of the Illinois Audubon Society Jim Herkert will give the talk “The Decline of Migratory Birds, Climate Change, and Restoration: How Do They All Fit Together?” at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 9, in the Felmley Hall of Science Annex, room 133, at Illinois State University.
The talk, sponsored by the Dr. Roger C. and M. Rebecca Anderson Fund, is free and open to the public.
A nationally recognized authority on grassland birds that breed in the Midwest, Dr. Herkert has published scientific papers on the effects of habitat loss and fragmentation on grassland species. An Illinois State alumnus, he joined the Illinois Audubon Society as executive director in 2016. Herkert previously worked as the director of the Office of Resource Conservation for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
Herkert earned a master’s degree in biology from Illinois State University and a Ph.D. in ecology, ethology, and evolution from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
The Dr. Roger C. and M. Rebecca Anderson Fund’s primary purpose is to provide a public talk addressing a topic involving natural history and/or restoration and management of natural systems.
