Located in the lower level of Fell Hall at Illinois State University, 103.3 WZND Fuzed Radio is an award-winning, student-run radio station that provides students with hands-on experience in the broadcast industry. WZND won more than twice as many statewide awards compared with other radio programs in Illinois at the 2019 Illinois Broadcasters Association Silver Dome Awards held last September.
WZND students also traveled to St. Louis in October 2019 for the College Broadcasters Incorporated Convention and came home with three first place and five total national awards for excellence in radio. In spring 2018, WZND was recognized as the best student-run radio station in the world from the Broadcast Education Association.
WZND offers many internships for students in any major. Available internships range from on-air talent for entertainment, news, and sports programming to event planning, advertising sales and other “behind the scenes” positions. The WZND board of directors consists of 30 student leaders in all of these areas. Students in these positions at WZND oversee other interns and receive course credit for their work while learning valuable skills both in media and leadership.
“You get real-world experience while getting to stay on campus,” Senior PR Assistant Director Lexy Carrell said. “WZND was a way for me to find friends and a group of people who I could talk about everything with.”
