When we ask, “Which qualities characterize a good nurse?” what springs to mind?
If you immediately thought about compassion, willingness to help others, and work ethic, you’re not alone. These qualities are, in large part, what make nursing one of the most trusted professions in the world. Combined with a nurses’ unique worldview and lens, such qualities are also extremely valuable in other settings, such as serving on a local board.
Illinois State University’s Mennonite College of Nursing is proud to be a strategic member on the national Nurses on Boards Coalition. Inspired by the work that was being done nationally, the college created Nurses on Local Boards (NOLB) just about a year ago. NOLB serves the purpose of connecting nurses and local boards in the Bloomington-Normal area in an effort to find good community leaders.
NOLB is open to all nurses; you do not have to be an Illinois State University alum to participate. NOLB has been working tirelessly to help improve our community, and while COVID has put a bit of a hitch in their plans, they will continue to work to the best of their abilities.
