“How the World Economic Crisis Threatens 20 Years of Progress in Post-Communist Eastern Europe: Romania – A Case Study” will be the subject of a presentation by author and journalist Alan Elsner on Wednesday, Oct. 27, from 12-1 p.m. in the Bone Student Center Third Floor East Lounge. The event is free and open to the public.
Elsner has 30 years of experience in journalism and has covered stories ranging from the 9/11 attacks and the crisis in the Middle East to the 2000 presidential election and the end of the Cold War. He is also the author of the novels The Nazi Hunter and Romance Language, set against the backdrop of the 1989 Romanian revolution. His book Guarded by Angels tells the story of how his father, a Polish Jew, survived both Nazi and Soviet brutality during World War II.
His presentation is part of Illinois State University’s International Studies Seminar Series exploring topics in global politics and culture. The seminar series is organized by the Unit for International Linkages, Office of International Studies and Programs, and the Women’s Studies Program.
