Illinois State University’s Board of Trustees approved the Master Plan 2010-2030: Looking to the Future, a long-range plan for the physical development of the University.
After many meetings, focus groups and community input, the new plan was formulated to promote and support the vision, values and goals of Educating Illinois.
Master Plan 2010-2030: Looking to the Future advances 67 recommendations organized in the areas of instruction, research and academic support; campus life; administration; Intercollegiate Athletics and recreation; and general campus improvements. The plan identifies eight geographical areas of campus, including Gregory Street, Northwest, North, West, Historic Quad, East, Uptown and Off-Campus.
The recommendations call for further development of the Gregory Street property, construction of new facilities and enhancements to existing facilities and the campus environment. The Gregory Street region recommendations include new facilities for University High School and Thomas Metcalf School and a childcare center. New facilities for Mennonite College of Nursing, the College of Fine Arts and an addition to the Science Laboratory building are part of the plan as well as renovation of Edwards, Cook, DeGarmo, Williams, Felmley and Hovey halls, Milner Library and the John Green building. Wireless connectivity throughout campus is part of the plan as well as enhancements to the University Farm and Horticulture Center.
Intercollegiate Athletics recommendations include renovation of Hancock Stadium, Horton Field House and the Karin Bone Athletic Study Center as well as a new softball complex and enhancements to baseball and golf facilities. Uptown Normal recommendations include new space for the University Galleries and Black Box Theater. The plan calls for renovation of Watterson Towers, both interior and exterior, redevelopment of Cardinal Court and renovation of the Bone Student Center and Braden Auditorium.
