WGLT and three community partners will host two live debates in March featuring the candidates running for mayor in Bloomington and Normal.
- 6–7 p.m. Tuesday, March 2—Bloomington mayoral candidates
- 6–7 p.m. Tuesday, March 9—Normal mayoral candidates
Both debates will air live on 89.1 FM and WGLT.org and be streamed on WGLT’s Facebook page. Due to coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, no in-person audience will be present for the debates.
The debates are co-sponsored by WGLT, the League of Women Voters of McLean County, the Bloomington-Normal branch of the NAACP, and Illinois State University’s Center for Civic Engagement. WGLT news director Charlie Schlenker will moderate the debates.
Civic engagement is a core value at Illinois State University, where WGLT is based. WGLT is also airing a series of public service announcements (PSAs) in February and March encouraging people to vote early, vote by mail, or vote in person.
The election is April 6. Early voting for Normal voters begins February 25. Early voting for Bloomington voters begins March 12.
