Illinois State University’s School of Social Work and the Social Work Anti-Racism Committee will present Social Work Day 2021: Your Normalcy Excludes Me: Eradicating Racism in Social Work.
This conference will be a two-day interactive, online Zoom event from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 25, and Friday, March 26. Registration is available here: https://about.illinoisstate.edu/socialworkday/.
The event is open to the public. Social Work Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available to licensed LSW, LCSW, LCP, and LCPCs for a fee. These will qualify for cultural competency:
- 2.5 Cultural Competency CEUs for Thursday, March 25 session for $25
- 2.5 Cultural Competency CEUs for Friday, March 26 session for $25
- 5 Cultural Competency CEUs for both sessions for $50
Day one of Social Work Day will provide a reflective understanding of anti-racism with social work student Logan Williams, presenting “Anti-Blackness in the Mental Health System.” Day two will feature ISU School of Social Work alumnae Angell Howard, who will provide an “action” approach as we work together on steps to eradicate racism.
This Social Work Day will serve as a follow up to our 2019 Student Forum that established a list of action items promoting social justice. The Anti-Racism Committee was initiated as a response to issues of racism, anti-blackness, and other forms of marginalization on our campus.
