The College of Education will host New Teacher Conference for all new teachers in their first through fourth years of teaching.
New Teacher Conference will be on Friday, June 11, via Zoom for any new teacher who is looking for an engaging and affordable professional development opportunity. The $20 registration fee includes multiple session opportunities throughout the morning and professional development hours. Session topics will include differentiated assessment, equitable classroom libraries, culturally responsive teaching strategies, positive parent communication and more.
Dr. Terry Husband, invited speaker, will address how new teachers can create inclusive, just, and equitable learning opportunities through asset-based teaching. Husband is a professor of early childhood literacy in the School of Teaching and Learning. He specializes in issues of social justice in early childhood classrooms, literacy development in Black boys in P-5 classrooms, and multicultural children’s literature.
“We are thrilled that Dr. Husband will join us for the conference as the invited speaker,” said Jill Donnel, assistant director and program coordinator in the School of Teaching and Learning. “Our goal is to continue to support new teachers once they are in their own classrooms and creating culturally responsive classrooms is imperative as we work towards more inclusive and equitable learning.”
