Dr. Linda Clemmons has been named the director of the Honors Program beginning July 1, 2022. Clemmons has served as the interim director since July 1, 2021.

“Dr. Clemmons brings a wealth of experience as a scholar, teacher, and leader to the position,” said Associate Vice President for Undergraduate Education Amy Hurd, who noted special focus will be given to continuing innovative programming as well as reviewing admissions procedures and supporting EDI initiatives, which include the EDI Peer Mentor Program.

The Honors Program serves approximately 1,600 students across all majors with the mission engaging, challenging, and supporting academically motivated and diverse students from all disciplines. In the fall semester, all new Honors students take the Honors Mindset Seminar, and then complete one of six innovative Honors Learning Experiences going forward for each semester they are in the program.  Clemmons said she is excited to continue to help Honors students become critical thinkers, leaders, and members of a multicultural world.

Prior to coming to the Honors Program, Clemmons was a professor in the Department of History with an expertise in the antebellum United States and Native American history. She has published two books, with an additional monograph in press, as well as multiple articles about the history of the Dakota Nation of Minnesota. She teaches courses in Native American history, the antebellum United States, historical methodology, and American Diversity.
