Six members from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) presented their research findings at the 2022 American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) Convention. The ASHA Convention is an annual professional education event for speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists. This year, it was held on November 17–19 in New Orleans. The ASHA Convention attracts over 15,000 attendees from around the world, and this year, the event was offered in a hybrid format, including in-person and virtual learning opportunities.
Members of the CSD department presented on a variety of scholarly topics, including early intervention, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), dysphagia, hearing loss and cognitive impairment, and cultural/linguistic competence. Presentation formats included seminars, poster presentations, and technical research sessions. One presentation included an Illinois State University alum, Braelyn Wence, M.S. ’22, who graduated from the CSD speech-language pathology program last spring and presented her master’s thesis research at the convention with Dr. Ciera Lorio.
ASHA is a wonderful time for CSD members to showcase their research and connect with other researchers and clinicians in the field. We applaud our presenters for representing the CSD program and Illinois State University at a national convention.
