Tricia Larkin, a speech-language pathologist, instructor, and clinical educator in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD), was recently awarded the 2022 University Distinguished Service Award. This award is the highest non-faculty award given by the University, and Larkin will be recognized for her award on February 16, 2023, during the Faculty/Staff Appreciate Awards Ceremony.
Larkin has made numerous professional and personal contributions to the CSD Department and the University. She is responsible for leading CSD students in organizing a film series that focuses on issues related to speech-language pathology and audiology. Larkin and her students were able to secure grant funding from the University to support this program, and multiple students have attended the films offered, learning more about their future profession and the clients they will serve.
Larkin also led students in developing a food bank for CSD students who are struggling financially. This food bank is stocked with donations from CSD faculty/staff and other community members, providing our CSD students with a safe place to secure food when money is tight.
These are just a few of the more recent service roles Larkin has voluntarily participated in. Over the years, she has also helped develop and implement a specialty clinic in the ISU Speech and Hearing Clinic for gender-affirming communication services (GACS) and organized a sequence of simulated clinical experiences in an online program called Simucase to support speech-language pathology graduate students in obtaining more clinical clock hours.
We are proud and honored to have Tricia Larkin in our CSD Department, and we are pleased her numerous contributions are being recognized by the University and others. Thank you for all you do for CSD, our students, and the University, Tricia!
