Illinois State University’s Board of Trustees authorized the design and construction of a new Outdoor Activity Center and high ropes course. The project is the first phase of improvements to the Gregory Street property used by Campus Recreation.
The new Outdoor Activity Center will be located adjacent to existing recreation fields on the Gregory Street property. The facility will provide a site for students to check out and use recreational equipment ranging from baseballs to tents. The facility will include an equipment storage area, meeting room, and storage facility for canoe rental operations. An adjoining high ropes course and pavilion will be constructed for recreational and team-building use. A lighted, 60-space parking lot will also be constructed adjacent to the center.
The project is part of The Gregory Street Development: Campus Recreation Master Plan that outlines improvements to the property. The $2.15 million project will be funded through recreation facility reserves and student activity fees.
