Rawan Atari, a second-year graduate student in the Master’s in Clinical Counseling Psychology Program, is a recipient of the McNair Book Scholarship for the second consecutive year.
Atari is originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she graduated from Marquette University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in social welfare and justice in 2015. As an undergraduate, she received the Leadership Award at Marquette for the Celebration and Promotion of Diversity and Inclusion.
A Ronald E. McNair Scholar since 2013, Atari’s research has focused on improving interventions for children with developmental disorders. She plans to pursue a doctoral degree in counseling psychology and is interested in working with immigrant and refugee populations from the Middle East. Her research interests include risk and resiliency in immigrant and refugee youth, and the construction of identity in Arab American adolescents.
The McNair Book Scholarship provides assistance to underrepresented graduate students for the purpose of purchasing the textbooks required for successful completion of graduate courses. One of the eligibility requirements for this reward is for the student to have been a participant in good standing as an undergraduate in a Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program.
