A major career skill one needs to have as a professional is to be able to network with finesse. Alumni Relations and the Career Center are proud to host Networking Live to help Illinois State students learn practical tips on how to network effectively, to make a positive and professional impact, and to feel more confident in social and business network settings. Best of all, students will have an opportunity to practice these skills in a safe setting with Illinois State alumni from various majors as well as Career Center and Alumni Relations staff.
“Networking is an essential tool students should use to connect with professionals who can provide them with career support. However, networking skills are what we have found many students lack the most confidence in using,” said Career Center Senior Assistant Director Maureen Roach. “Networking Live is an excellent opportunity for students to develop their networking skills and gain the confidence they need to do so successfully.”
When: 5—6:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 2
Where: 116 Alumni Center
Cost: FREE
Students attending this event can expect to learn how to introduce themselves using a 30-second commercial, as well as business etiquette skills, like how to manage holding a glass and a plate of food while networking.
“This program is great to build several networking skills but those that attend go away with an expanded network because they are meeting with alumni that can share insights on how to excel in a program before graduation and how to prepare for a career after,” said Stephanie Duquenne, director in Alumni Relations.
Refreshments will be provided. Attire for the evening is business casual. Parking is free.
Don’t miss this chance to connect with both students and alumni! Register by October 26 at Alumni.IllinoisState.edu/Networking or by calling Alumni Relations at (309) 438-2586.
