Todd McLoda
Illinois State University Provost Janet Krejci announced that Todd McLoda has been chosen as the new dean for the College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST), effective January 1. McLoda currently serves as the senior associate dean for CAST.
“Dr. McLoda received very strong support from all areas of the campus. He has a deep understanding and passion for the College of Applied Science and Technology, and has already taken it in new and exciting directions,” said Provost Krejci. “From his time in the classroom, to developing a new major, the breadth and diversity of his knowledge will continue to inspire and guide as he takes the helm of CAST.”
McLoda joined Illinois State in 2000 as a faculty member and the director of the athletic training program in the School of Kinesiology and Recreation. He has extensive teaching experience of both undergraduate and graduate courses. Under his guidance, the athletic training program earned national accreditation in 2001. In 2006, he was named assistant director of the school, working with curriculum, budgets, and advisory boards for the faculty and the more than 850 graduate and undergraduate students. Among his accomplishments working with the curriculum, the school developed the athletic training major and completely revised the graduate sequence in athletic training. From 2009 to 2015, McLoda was an associate dean of CAST, overseeing college assessment, curriculum, research, budget, and technology. In 2011, he earned the rank of professor of athletic training. He was named senior associate dean of CAST in 2015, and assumed additional responsibilities overseeing facilities projects, college development, and strategic planning initiatives.
With scholarly work appearing in such journals as the Journal of Athletic Training, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, and the Athletic Training Education Journal, McLoda’s efforts have received more than $700,000 in grants and contracts, including $250,000 from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. McLoda has also chaired or served on more than 35 graduate thesis committees and serves as a member of the editorial board for one athletic training journal and an ad hoc reviewer for five additional scholarly journals.
McLoda earned a doctorate from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. He is the recipient of a summer fellowship from the Association for Institutional Research, the National Center for Education Statistics, and the National Science Foundation. McLoda also participated in the Harvard Institute for Management and Leadership in Education in 2016.
