Updated 4/26/17 LOCATION CHANGE: Due to the potential for rain, CakeSpeare will take place in the Center for the Performing Arts, Lobby.
The Illinois Shakespeare Festival and Illinois State University School of Theatre and Dance team up to bring you an exciting, interactive, and theatrical approach to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. On Wednesday, April 26, to commemorate the anniversary of William Shakespeare’s birthday—April 23, 1594, six actors from the acting program will play all roles in a 45-minute abridgement that adapts to any space and every audience.
Two performances will take place at 1:30 p.m., and 3 p.m. on in the Center for the Performing Arts, Lobby.
You can not celebrate a birthday without a little cake! Swing by, enjoy a little Shakespeare in the afternoon, and grab a slice of cake to celebrate the birthday of theatre’s most famous playwright. This event is free and open to the public.
ISF 2016 Season T-shirts will be available for $5 (cash only). In various colors and sizes, these shirts display classic quotes from Hamlet, Twelfth Night, and Peter and the Star Catcher.
Created in 2013 in tandem with the M.F.A acting program, the ISF touring company is the brain-child of Illinois Shakespeare Festival’s artistic director, Kevin Rich and includes a focus on civic engagement. The talented undergraduate actors of ISU travel across Illinois, Indiana, and wherever else the winds may blow them to perform an abridgement of Shakespeare’s classics. The troupe visits schools, prisons, and community centers, and has reached over 5,000 audience members—last week filling up the community room in our very own Normal Public Library!
