On Monday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. the Normal Theater will offer a free screening of the documentary I Am the Queen.
The director of the filem, Josue Pellot, whose exhibit Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted is running at the University Galleries, will host a noon lecture at the Illinois State University Galleries and will be on hand at the Normal Theater for the screening.
I Am The Queen is a documentary film focusing on a transgender, youth beauty pageant, taking place in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood. Characters offer a glimpse of their lifestyle as they prepare to compete against each other. The film follows Bianca, Julissa and Jolizza (the latter derives her feminine moniker from the Ting Tings hit That’s Not My Name) as they prepare for the pageant and negotiate being trans and teen in Latino Chicago.
